Mzansi's top runners to lineup for fast times at Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10k

Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10k race director Mdu Khumalo is expecting fast times during the race on Sunday. The race which enters its second year in 2022, carries a lucrative R193 500 total prize money which has attracted some of the best 10km performers from around the country. The overall winners in both men's and women's categories will walk away with R30 000.

Speaking to #TheTopRunner, Khumalo confirmed that some of the top elite athletes have been drawn to participate in the event. Some of the big names include Precious Mashele, Melikhaya Frans, Thabang Mosiako, Lebohang Phalula, and Glenrose Xaba.

"I think we are going to witness fast times on Sunday. The route is flat plus doesn't consist of too many bends which will allow athletes to produce great runs. In the men's race, I see an early 28-minute winning time. 28 minutes is being run in the country regularly so it's nothing new. It is good that in the field, most of these guys have managed to produce this time before. If the weather conditions can be good then nothing can stop these guys from running good times," he explained.

Khumalo also applauded the way runners have shown love to a race whose first edition took place just last November. Almost 2000 runners have already entered the race which has resulted in organisers extending the closing date to the 26th of October.

"I'm happy with the way the runners have responded to the race. It is still a new race but we have already exceeded our expectations regarding the way runners have entered the race. The last I checked we have passed 1 800 entries which is why we opted to extend the closing date. It shows that the race stands to be one of the most loved race in the country in the near future. The main focus now is to make sure the race happens well from starting on time, good refreshment stations, etc. Once the race is well organized then it will attract more runners to come and experience that in future," he concluded.
